Wulai Eco-Tourism

Looking to do some eco-touring around Taiwan this weekend?
Why not give Taipei County's Wulai a try? There, you can hike, watch birds, learn about the indigenous Atayal Tribe,
and at the end of the day, take a dip in the hot springs. Michella Jade Weng reports.

Surrounded by trees, birds, a river, a waterfall and hot springs,
this is Wulai, a prime spot for getting back to nature.

Ciou Cingyao
Eco-Tour Guide
"Wulai's a great place for bird watching.
The Jiujialiao trail's quite easy to walk too.
You can finish it in less than an hour."

After the hike, you can head to the Wulai Waterfall.
If you're lucky, you'll might find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

"Riding the gondola's also a good way to make friends."

Traveler
"Looks like Norway.
Rough and pure."

There's also an Atayal Tribe museum,
if you're interested in the original local culture.
"Wulai" in Atayal means "hot spring," which is another excuse to enjoy a nice,
relaxing soak in one before heading home.

Lin Guan-bo
Tour guide
"After they make a reservation for a tour,
we'll pick up and drop off the clients at their desired location.
It's safe and it's convenient."

English and Japanese-speaking tour guides are available on all thirty-plus routes,
bringing Taiwan a touch closer and more accessible to those from overseas.
