The Taipei International Travel Fair has had thousands of people coming through looking for cheap holiday packages but this year¡¦s fair has had a new feature, travel industry representatives from China looking for special destinations in Taiwan. The Chinese travel industry people said that in addition to the well-known destinations such as Sun Moon Lake and Alishan, Taiwan has other attractions such as whale-watching and beach holidays in Kenting that are not yet well known in China.

Chinese travel company representatives and Taiwan¡¦s Tourism Bureau have been using the Taipei International Travel Fair as an opportunity to explore possible itineraries for Chinese tourists visiting Taiwan.

The travel company representatives said their customers are looking for newer, more meaningful travel experiences.

Because some of the people don¡¦t live anywhere near an ocean, and Taiwan has deep ocean currents, whales and dolphins, said this travel agent. Also, Kenting, this type of holiday resort feeling needs to be based on a sandy beach or to be culture-based, for example, like Taiwan indigenous culture.

Health checks, wedding photos and concert tours are all possible items, said this agent.

Chinese tourists are said to be interested in gaining a deeper understanding of Taiwan¡¦s unique culture and lifestyle. The travel company representatives are hoping to stir up greater enthusiasm for new and different tours to Taiwan in the near future.
