Some
of Taiwan's most beautiful scenery
can be seen from...inside trains.
Starting last month, a Japanese
TV crew has been traveling around
Taiwan, filming trains, train
stations and the culture around
railways for a special program
for Asahi TV. Michella Jade Weng
caught up with them in Chishang
(池上), Taitung, where they said
that lunch boxes there are especially
interesting. Let's find out why
Underneath
blue skies and beautiful sunshine,
through flower fields, and puffs
of clouds in the mountains, traveling
by train can be especially pleasant
here in Taiwan. And the food is
pretty good too.
These
guys are from Asahi TV in Japan,
they're filming for a series of
shows on railway travels of the
world.

I heard that Taiwan's only the
size of Kyushu, but there are
so many different kinds of trains
here and so many different kinds
of scenery.
Most
of the railroads in Taiwan were
constructed by the Japanese. Even
though the stations may look similar
to those in Japan, but the culture
around them is quite different.
Take, for example, how these lunch
boxes are sold.

It's really unique. I was very
surprised, but it's quite fun.
In the minute that the train stops
to pick up passengers, people
hop off to buy their lunch boxes
from these ladies. It's really
lively. We don't have this kind
of thing in Japan.
Having
seen most of the railroads in
the world, they still find Taiwan's
charming in its own way.
